DEADLINE TO COMPLETE ONLINE TRAINING IS DECEMBER 1, 2016
IF YOU BECOME A YOUTH LEADER AFTER THAT DATE YOU MUST COMPLETE TRAINING BEFORE YOUR START DATE.
There is no greater priority within the Knights of Columbus and the Columbian Squires than the safety, security, and protection of the children and young people who participate in Squires programs. Council leaders who are charged with selecting members to supervise squire activities must use their best judgement to select only those men who are fully aware of their responsibilities as youth leaders. These responsibilities include serving as a positive role model, recognizing that their public and private conduct can inspire and motivate young people, as well as scandalize and undermine young people’s faith. Only those members who have shown a clear commitment to living out the highest Christian ethical and moral standards and personal integrity in their day-to-day work and personal lives may be considered for selection as youth leaders.
The Knights of Columbus now requires that Knights in the following leadership positions ( State Committeemen, Council Youth Director, Squires Chief Counselors & Squires Counselors) are required to complete the online training seminar for the Knights of Columbus. The training includes 3 training modules at approximately 45 minutes each. The training is offered by Praesidium Armatus Child abuse awareness & prevention in partnership with the Knights of Columbus. The training also includes a mandatory national background check.
Youth Leaders are required to go through Safe Environment training before they begin their role. ALL STATE COMMITTEEMEN, CHIEF COUNSELORS, SQUIRES COUNSELORS AND SQUIRE ROSES COUNSELORS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THEIR TRAINING BY DECEMBER 1, 2016 in order to continue in their role with the Columbian Squires. The Knights of Columbus strongly encourages all council officers and other fraternal leaders who supervise youth leaders, including Grand Knights, State Deputies, and District Deputies, to complete Praesidium safe environment/youth protection requirements. This training does not exempt you from having to participate in diocesan level training and completing diocese Safe Environment training does not exempt you from completing the Knights of Columbus training.
All Counselors and Squire Roses Counselors are required to provide a copy of their completion sheet and background check verification to their Chief Counselor.
Any questions regarding the Safe Environment program should be directed to the State Squires Chairman, Kerry Williams, Jr at firstname.lastname@example.org or 504-289-5937
